WHAT IS IOWA HP?
Iowa HP is committed to select, develop, and help support athletes who will represent the Iowa Region at competitions with the ultimate objective of winning medals at the USAV National High Performance Championships and other national and international competitions.

To take part in Iowa High Performance, you must be a member of the Iowa Region, or live in Iowa or go to school in Iowa and participate in HP Tryouts.

Our Iowa HP experience is 3-tier and includes: tryouts, Iowa HP Individual Camp, and representation at the USAV High Performance National Championship or the Asics National Championship (BOYS).

The USAV HP age-group classifications are consistent with those established by the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball). Those age-group classifications govern international competition and all levels of HP programs. Please note that these age-group classifications differ from USA Volleyball Junior club age definitions and also from grade classifications of U.S. school systems.

USAV High Performance works on a two-year cycle, with a cycle starting at the beginning of an even year (like 2016) and finishing at the end of an odd year (like 2017). Athletes remain in the same age group throughout the two years, then move up to the next age group at the beginning of the next even year to start a new cycle (like will happen next into 2016 and will happen again in 2018). Athletes may only try out and play in their own age group – there is no “playing up".

Players who want to be part of the Iowa HP program must attend an HP tryout. From the tryouts, the HP staff evaluate players for placement at the June training camp (all BOYS who would like to attend HP Camp, may--the tryouts are simply for placement at camp.) At the HP Camp, ~10 players in each age group will be selected to play on the Iowa HP travel team, and compete at the USAV HP National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, FL in July.
